A Day in the Biking Life

Some days are more full of cycling than others.

Some days are better than others. Here’s a great day I had in early April.

First. I got up early and rode on quiet roads and trails in the early-morning chill from Arlington to the Kenilworth rec center in the Anacostia neighborhood in DC for a group bike ride.

Second. Warming up—one of the first warm days of early spring was perfect for helping to lead 25+ riders on the the launch of #BiketheDistrict Petals & Pedals. Sponsored by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and LimeBike, I led cyclists of all abilities for a ride on the new extension of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. These women were determined to ride the whole route — and they did!

Next. Rode back to Arlington past just-budding cherry blossoms and tourists and monuments—weather beautiful now, in the 60s.

Then. First lesson for Areeba. She’s learning to ride so she can go on an Amalfi Coast Bike/Winery tour with a friend at the end of April. Thrilled she was pedaling by the end of the lesson!

Summing up: I got in 30+ miles on my bike. Led a ride. Taught someone new to ride. I may have dreamed of bikes. I slept so soundly, I have no idea.
