Are you ready to ride?

Welcome! Let me help you get started.

Decide what you want to do on a bike, and I’ll help make it happen. For example,

  • A group of seven middle school kids learned how to ride bikes on streets so their folks wouldn’t worry. One of the moms said: “The class was extremely well-organized, well-planned and lots of fun.”
  • In another neighborhood, a mom decided to have lessons after she saw how much her children loved learning to ride.
  • For a small group of professionals who work downtown, I held “bike class” at their office, then hit the road with them so they could confidently peddle to work.

Middle-school safety lesson and group ride

These people wanted fun, exercise, confidence, safety. Understandably they were also worried about equipment, routes, traffic, etc.

Hiring a bike teacher—me—gave them a shortcut to their goal.

You know how life sometimes puts you on a new path? For me, that was a bike path.

After my doctor warned me that I needed more exercise or I’d probably have to go on blood pressure meds, I dusted off my bike and went for a ride. The more I rode, the more I enjoyed it, and I wanted to share this great thing with other people. I got certified as an instructor and launched DC Cycling Sensei as a business.

I am a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor and current teacher for the Washington Area Bicyclist Association.

Since beginning my instruction business in the spring of 2015, I’ve given scores of private lessons to kids and adults, taught hundreds of people in group lessons, and led many rides with hundreds of participants. I’ve also been a bike trail ranger—and cycled in Nepal.

Lessons are tailored to you, on your schedule. Learning to ride, strengthening your riding skills, picking out equipment, commuting by bike, riding as a group, figuring out which rideshare system to use (and how) — I’ll teach you what you need to know, at your speed.

Learning in a group is fun too, whether it’s neighborhood kids or colleagues wanting to ride downtown.

I hope you’re thinking about new biking adventures. I’d love to help. Sign up for my email list for information about area riding: dccyclingsensei.com. (Follow me on Facebook and Instagram as well.)
